2.) Tamarind Restaurant

1.) THE CARNIVORE

The Carnivore is a time-tested restaurant set in tropical gardens with a rustic feel. It is fondly referred to as Africa’s greatest eating experience. Carnivore an up-market African cuisine meat speciality restaurant offers a fixed price ‘eat all you can’ feast; including soups, dessert selections and coffee. It is advisable to make a reservation in advance to secure a table.

Meat legs of lamb and pork, rumps of beef, spare ribs, chicken wings and some exotic meats are roasted over traditional Masai swords over a huge charcoal pit that dominates the entrance. The waiters dressed in wildlife regalia are an army of carvers who serve guests and only stop when the white paper flag perched atop the central tray on a table is lowered by the guests signalling ‘enough is enough’.

Unlike years back when plenty of game meat was served, these days game meat is minimal due to tougher government restrictions. However, the carnivore gourmet experience is still a worthwhile endeavour especially for barbecue lovers.

For those who don’t have a huge appetite, the Simba Saloon an informal restaurant adjoining the main restaurant caters to your needs and also incorporates a children’s playground. For ‘night birds’ the Simba Saloon turns into a nightclub on Wednesday to Sunday nights playing African music, rock, jazz, soul among others.

2.) TAMARIND RESTAURANT NAIROBI
